Spring inspires us to wake-up, move and be busy. It can be hard to maintain that energy level after a season of hibernation and rest, so this is a reminder to take time to pause, be still and acclimate to the change of seasons. Breathe with intention, listen to who returned to the land we find ourselves on, be present with all that surrounds you. April hit my family with a dose of Covid, right after a much needed vacation. While it was frustrating for us (my partner and I were ready to get back to work, into routines, be active with our daughters and move forward with some projects), there was also a lesson to acknowledge: pause, breathe and smile. When our bodies are busy - so too are our minds. We lose sight of our spirit, the connection to source and our need for quiet moments. We get bogged down by deadlines and to-do lists. This demanding lifestyle can cause us to be anxious, easily triggered and irrational. Parents of children with jam-packed extracurricular schedules can often feel like they are on a direct flight to crazytown. Add on a layer of mental illness like anxiety and/or depression and you've got a whopping seasonal migraine that really makes it hard to get excited about Spring like we think we "should." Our bodies need rest. There's no "should" that makes much sense when we recognized we are all different and need to honor ourselves differently. Most of us need to time to adjust with the season and move at its pace. Spring doesn't just pop up. It ebbs and flows. It comes in like the lion and leaves like the lamb. One day is a winter storm (oh hey, that's tonight) and the next is 70 degrees and sunny (oh hey, that was yesterday). Like the season, we can be active and productive - but we also need time to slow down and watch the sunset. Time to dream up those productive days and plan the ones that help us stay centered. Time to adjust to new sleep patterns and light. We need space to honor our 'beingness' so that we can show up for the those that need us most. Join Hike and Heal Wellness this Spring while we facilitate two unforgettable experiences: one for families and another for adults. Both opportunities will be hosted at the Madison School Forest Campground, a location that makes both programs super special! The School Forest is located just South of Verona, WI on 307 acres of forest and prairie. The hilly terrain, rock outcroppings, old oak trees, planted pine grove and over 40 species of birds make this place ideal for a mind, body, spirit reset. For more information on the Madison School Forest, read this blog post by the Friends Association. On the land is a rustic campground, complete with a kitchen, open air shelter, nature center, observatory, ropes course, water station and restrooms.
Family Camp is just around the corner. Not only will there be ample time to connect and play with family and others that are like-minded, but there is space cutout for parents to unwind and focus on themselves. Families will walk away with common language to use with their kids related to mindfulness, nature connection, gratitude and group communication. We will play a lot of games, eat communal meals and enjoy being out in nature for a full weekend. BONUS - IT'S EARTH DAY WEEKEND!!! We will revive the campground with our presence, clean up trash left around the area and tend to the spaces that need it most. It will serve as a grand trine of sorts - a coming home to self, a welcoming of spring and a big blanket of gratitude to those we love most. Will you join us? The Spring Retreat isn't too far behind! I'm not sure which program I am more excited for - they are both so different, and yet they will be equally as beneficial! Breathe, Ground and Awaken... that is the intention of the weekend. We will create intentions for ourselves, learn about local spring ephemerals popping up, bathe in the atmosphere of the forest (forest bathing - shinrin-yoku - forest therapy) and that is just the beginning. Even though everything is always optional in our programming, there is free-time built into the schedule. That way you can nap, sit, sip, listen, read, wander, wonder and all together be in any way you choose. Yoga, sound healing and a workshop on ayurvedic eating compliment the weekend, leaving you vibrating at your highest frequency. This is likely our last retreat of 2023 so don't miss it! If you're not up for tent camping or sharing a cabin with others - just commute. Stay in a hotel, with friends or if you're a local - your own comfortable nest. Then drive out in the AM to be with us for the scheduled program. You do you. Are you ready to reset and align with all that Spring has to offer? |
AuthorHi, Moira here. When I'm not playing with my dogs, listening to music, enjoying nature or being with my friends/family, I'm probably writing. Read these blogs for wellness opportunities we offer at Hike & Heal, ones I know that are awesome or just some tidbits about living a healthier life. Archives
